  • Perfect for racing sailboats

    December 05, 2016

As a racing sailor who also is a racing coach, I'm always on the look out for the best quality gear that fits the demands of racing. I've been a fan of Astral designs for some time and had needed a life jacket that bridged the gap between my dinghy racing vest and my inflatable offshore racing vest with harness. Racing on the Chesapeake Bay there are plenty of opportunities to sail at night and/or in conditions where wearing a life vest is smart and where tethering into safety lines is advisable. The Green Jacket is one of, or perhaps the only non-inflatable life jacket that makes that possible. I can tether in for safe night sailing or in stormy weather without having to worry about replacing an expensive CO2 cartridge. It also serves as a great dinghy racing life vest when I'm on the little boats, and as perfect vest when I'm instructing. Love this vest!

  • The one and only!

    October 01, 2016

I've used the Green Jacket since a began creek boating years ago, and I wouldn't consider using anything else. From raft guiding to teaching at World Class Kayak Academy, it has all of the essentials for personal class V expeditions and adventures as well as keeping my guests and students safe on the water. I regularly use the built in quick release and Web Tow combo to pull swamped boats to shore, and always have the astral Throw Rope readily available in the front pocket. I barely notice it here and use it more than anything to get swimmers back to my raft or to shore. I recommend the jacket to all of my students, and commonly use the built in webbing in the front to safely help lower students to tricky put ins. Incredibly well built too, these PFDs will last well over a decade of loving use!

I was never convinced about the GJ, spent years with the aqua vest and avoided updating to the GJ - went to other brands. This last 12 months I reluctantly purchased a GJ. Its life changing, dont know why I never did it sooner - THE BEST MASS PRODUCED JACKET FACT

  • Everything you need, nothing you don't!

    August 17, 2016

This thing has been amazing so far. I really love how adjustable the fit is and, of course, the massive front pocket (perfect for keys, beers, sunscreen...). I haven't put the rescue functionality to the test yet (thankfully), but it gives me peace of mind knowing it is there. Overall, very stoked and satisfied customer here!

  • Best jacket for technical whitewater!

    July 19, 2016

I know this jacket has my back, and it's what I choose to wear on the gnarlier whitewater and runs I have never done before. It's a serious jacket for serious paddlers having serious fun!

  • Green Jacket Love

    July 04, 2016

I have been rocking this vest since it first came out through all the updates it has had. I loved it when I first got it and every addition it has had is amazing. It's sleek fit and rescue capabilities are no match to any other vest. Holding nothing back this vest packs everything you need into 1. I am looking forward to the new addition- like the iPhone I've gotta have it!

  • Best One So Far!!!

    May 02, 2016

I got the Green Jacket a while back and didn't get the chance to give it a full test. But a couple weeks ago, I got to run the Green River Narrows for my first time. The PFD was awesome on the hike in, not to heavy or bulky and didn't get in your way plus the skirt clip made it easier to walk, and was even better on the river. Though I didn't have to swim, or save anybody, it did a great job protecting me for the one time I flipped. The leash works great too and the vest has enough flotation to keep you up, but not get in your way. Overall, I highly recommend this product, to beginner or advanced, you never know when you might need it!

  • Green Jacket the best for the price

    March 28, 2016

On my third or fourth edition of the jacket. Comfortable with usable and practical features. They have worn well through many hours of four season paddling on the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland. I have a reputation of being hard on my gear, simply because I paddle 2-3 times weekly year round. Although certainly not inexpensive, I guess this is an example of 'getting what you pay for'. I bought it at the best canoe and kayak shop on the East Coast. ACK, Annapolis, MD

  • Great Rescue PFD

    March 25, 2016

I finally bought the new Greenjacket and in true beater fashion I swam on Big Creek the first time I wore it. What can I say, new PFD's float so much better than old ones! This is a great PFD for swiftwater rescue with the quick release and the clip in webbing up front. Comfortable to wear all day long and easy to move around in when paddling, does not restrict mobility. Front pocket opens downward now and is really easy to access while in the boat. Can't think of anything it's missing?

  • Great product so far

    March 04, 2016

Have had the new red version for a month or so and really pleased with it. Fits great, easy to put on and loads of storage for all those items you need about your person while on the water. Build quality is great and time will tell how well it lasts. Know a few people who have been using the green jacket for a while and theirs still look like new. Highly recommended.
