Organic Kapok

This bouyant plant fiber comes from the seedpod of the kapok tree (Ceiba pentrandra) and is the most sustainable buoyant material we know. Ours is grown organically in Indonesia, and offers a uniquely comforting and insulating fit.

PVC Free

Every product in our line is completely free of toxic PVC. We reuse as many scraps as possible, recycle everything, and compost our coffee beans.

  • I bought my Astral Abba pfd last summer and love it!

    September 06, 2016

I've taken it on several white water rafting and kayaking trips, tubing on lakes, and lazy floats since then and it still looks brand new. The straps make adjustments quick and easy and the padding is comfortable on my chest. I've used my fiance's NRS pfd and it was not friendly to my chest at all. Our next purchase will be new river shoes as soon as I decide between the Brewers and Aquanauts.

  • I LOVE this PFD

    August 08, 2016

This is the first jacket that I have been totally in love with. The first reason is that it is just so darn comfortable--the kapok conforms to your shape, no matter what it is, and is both squishy and firm at the same time. You don't get that stiff, cardboard feeling you get with most PFD that use standard foam. It is not blocky or non bending at all. The second reason is the pockets--not too big, not too small-just right. The side one is great of items you don't need all the time, some safety stuff, etc. The front one is for the sunscreen, ear plugs, whatever you use all the time. The best thing about the jacket is it floats--like really floats you out of the water. Having spent enough time with my head at or below the water in a swim this is super important for me. The jacket is probably a year old now, lots of use and I just remembered I should try the buoyancy a week ago and it is as good as new in terms of flotation. It is comfortable and easy to use, put on, take off, light weight, etc. Kind of weird getting so excited about a PFD but since it's the most important part of my kit, that's what I am.
