Water Ready

All Astral shoes have a special relationship with water. Every component, from the thread to the laces are critically evaluated and chosen for its ability to hold up after constant soaking, to shed water, and not to accumulate funk. Many models have engineered drainage for water to come out while minimizing entry of silt.

Balanced Geometry

We believe that a foot’s position in a shoe should be similar to when barefoot. This allows excellent balance and biomechanically natural lifestyle.

Foot-beds are essentially level (only 1mm drop from heel to toe ) and provide medium arch support.  Tapered instep and heel area for better foothold and control. Wide forefoot allows your feet and toes to spread out for stability.

This G compound is formulated for premium grip while also providing "excellent" abrasion resistance. Its low durometer means the rubber is softer and therefore conforms well to the ground.

Top Shank

Supports the foot while allowing soles to conform and cushion.

I bought the womens hikers at least a year ago. It took me months to wear them in and I couldnt wear them without socks without them seriously chewing up my feet. Once they broke in though, I loved them. I wouldnt necessarily say these are light hikers as I did a 15 day trek in Nepal with them. However, even before I went to Nepal, the upper started to split from the lower. And now there are large holes in the mesh where they bend with my toes. They are still hanging in there although would have been nice for them to last a bit longer. The tread was nice and sticky. I appreciated that about them. Im really on the fence if Id get another pair.

  • Excellent product and service! Thanks Ellen!

    March 19, 2018

I had purchased the women's TR1 Trek for my wife and a few other pairs for myself and others. Having a few questions about shipping and sizing, I was pleasantly surprised by the helpful and friendly responses from Ellen (Customer Service). She was responsive and instilled a sense of trust, which I great appreciated, as I was shipping four pairs of shoes into Canada without the chance to try them on. The shoes arrived quickly and we were all pleased with the construction and fit of the shoes. They were comfortable from the start and did not need a period of being broken in.
My wife stated that she liked how solid and light the TR1 Trek's felt on her feet, with nice sticky soles. They felt well constructed and made of materials that will stand up to busy summers.
There is still a lot of snow up here in Canada, so the shoes further increased the itch for spring and our chance to hit the trails with our new Astral shoes.

  • Narrows Hike Approved!

    November 22, 2017

Wore these into the Green Race this year and loved them! Brand new and never worn until then! Gripped all the slick rock well and made that last scramble into the gorge no issue! I wear 9.5s in every other Astral shoe but I wish I had gotten a size 10 in these. My big toe tends to rub against the front of only one of the shoes and is slightly uncomfortable. Other than that, I love this product!

  • 20 miles right out of the box

    April 20, 2017

I love these shoes! I guide hiking and backpacking trips in Pisgah National Forest (NC). I bought the shoes on a Thursday and began wearing them on trail Friday morning. Something you are told never to do with new hiking shoes! Well I hiked 20 miles in 2 days and never felt sore anywhere on my feet. I walked up and down rocky and rooty and muddy trail. I was so happy how good my feet felt every step of the way. The shoes are so lightweight too! I am an avid hiker aside from work and these have become my new favorite shoe. I look forward to buying another style (or 2!) of Astral shoes soon.
