  • Great, light-weight hiking boot

    August 31, 2020

These boots are great! They are very light-weight, awesome traction, and needed no time to break-in. I like the arch support as well. I do think these run a bit on the small side. I am typically a size 6 but went up to a 6.5. My husband has these in the men's version, and also went up a half size.

  • So much more than a river boot!

    August 21, 2020

Astral, you have created the ultimate swamp shoe. I am a Park Ranger and purchased these boots in preparation for working a season in South West Florida. I feel confidently that I have put these shoes to the test as they have withstood trudging through waist deep cypress swamps, hiking across knee deep marl prairies and climbing through hardwood hammocks (in that order) basically every day for 9 months. Holy versatile! The ankle support is trusty, the drainage is fantastic, the fabric is super durable and they are so stylish. Thanks for keeping my feet happy in gator and python infested habitats. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

  • The boot I've been searching for for years!

    June 26, 2020

Last year I ordered these boots for my fiance and myself. We do a lot of gully hiking and waterfall climbing. I searched high and low for "water boots" and every possible variant thereof. We need the ankle and toe protection due to debris in the creeks, and the tactile feedback around our ankle helps us feel more secure in an unsteady, rocky creekbed. Not only that, but we need a solid sole for the non-water portions of our hikes and to protect the bottoms of our feet. To top it all off, the sole needs to be super grippy to handle wet, algae/silt-covered shale. Trail runners, water shoes, hiking boots, Teva-style sandals... none of those options even remotely met our needs. I was in despair. Clearly, there was a hole in the market. Water boots didn't exist. Everyone thought I was crazy for wanting "water boots." I began to think maybe I was crazy.

Then I found these boots. They are absolutely perfect and fit true to size for both my fiance (men's 10) and I (women's 6.5). They are roomy enough both for my fiance's wide rectangle feet and my wide-toe/narrow-heel triangle foot. I use a heel-lock lace technique to really keep the boot secure on my narrow heel. We feel invincible in these boots. As we do our waterfall hikes, we invariably begin talking about how much we love these boots, how awesome these boots are, and how we could never imagine the gully-hiker life before these boots. They have ample holes for water drainage and do not smell. We wear light-cushion merino wool crew socks with these and it's great.

You need these boots. I might actually love these boots more than my Lowas, just because of the niche they fill. There's no other boots like these boots.

If Astral ever stops making these boots, I will be beside myself.

  • Buy and Try!

    January 20, 2020

I have never owned such a lightweight pair of hiking boots that have support like these. They truly are the best I have ever owned and I just bought a second pair. They are much lighter and cooler than my Keens and Obox, the form to the trails considerably better and they are simply heaven on your feet. I LOVE these.

  • Great overall shoe

    July 07, 2019

These shoes have been so great! They've gone on many trips hiking in and out of rivers and canyoneering with me and I've been beyond satisfied. They are so lightweight that they're perfect for canyons with a multiday approach. They stick well and require minimal upkeep. Love them!

  • Great shoes to hike in FL!

    January 06, 2019

I had seen these shoes on Instagram from someone who had recently hiked the AT and wore these, then I remembered I had seen this brand ad Rei and was curious about them so Christmas came around and I ended up receiving a pair of these TR1 merges and I love them! Super light and great for hiking in Florida! You never know when you're going to step in a puddle or the trail will only allow for a water crossing. These shoes are super comfortable and I love the way they look. Definitely recommend especially if you're doing any hiking in Florida.

  • Hiked (almost) the entire AT in these Babies!

    December 04, 2018

I hiked from mile 470 to mile 2190.9 in these kicks and would do it again in a heartbeat! I wish I had them from the very start. I only needed two pairs--which is impressive with such a lightweight shoe! They were PERFECTION on the Appalachian Trail--dried out fast, lightweight, durable, lots of cushion. Plus they look awesome. I got so many compliments. I loved loved loved these shoes. I can't recommend them enough! BUY THEM!!!

  • High Performing Amphibious Shoe!

    August 20, 2018

I would highly recommend the Astral TR1 Merge. They are an amphibious boot that performs well both in the rapids as well as over rocky terrain. As someone who often combines water activities with hikes, I love that I can just take one pair of shoes that do it all. I also was pleased to find that on an initial 10 mile hike over scree fields I left with no blisters to report! Order your normal street shoe size in these and you should be good to go.

  • Super light and SUPER FRESH

    July 11, 2018

These shoes are not just super light and free and flexy - they make you wanna run 'n jump, you're feeling so spry in them! - they also just look sweet. I love their style, and plan to not only wear them on the trail but out 'n about as often as possible. My Mom and I always hike together, and since getting mine, I've decided to gett my Mom a pair for her birthday! #matching

  • Never thought this shoe (TR1 Merge Women's) would or could be this comfortable!

    April 25, 2018

Being a Sea Kayaker, addicted to adventures in Alaska and British Columbia, I have been desperately searching for the perfect water/hiking shoe. Well I found it! The shoes arrived today. I just took a test walk in the Snake River (Wyoming). Wow, so comfortable, they drain well and climbing around the shore on steep rocks was effortless. Finally a nice round toe box in a women's shoe. I oversized them a full size to accommodate a Kokatat stocking foot boaters pant and Simms neoprene fishing sock/gravel guard combo. It is what one needs for the cold waters of the northwest Coast. Can't wait to enjoy these great shoes on my next adventure!

  • Did not anticipate how much I would love these!

    April 23, 2018

I have both hiking boots and water shoes, so I assumed that this shoe would be a compromise in function for both categories - but they are not at all! These are both great water shoes: light and airy it is while still having a firm, grippy protective sole. Well done, Astral - this is a very well designed shoe that's ideal for spring river running, canoeing, and warmer weather hiking/backpacking. Doesn't hurt that it looks really cool too :) 100% true to size. Great balance of lightness, protection, quick-drying, and swag!

  • A new market?

    April 15, 2018

*Love* these shoes! My poor, poor husband thought he was going to get away with a having a wife who "wasn't* obsessed with shoes. Then I discovered Astral. This is my 3rd pair of Astral shoes in less than a year. So I've been stalking these shoes online for their release date and finally, like Christmas day, here they are! Whoo!! So specifics for why I like them (and Astral shoes in general)...I don't have a very high medial arch and shoes with too much arch hurt my feet. My feet are also a little wide so women's shoes tend to be a little too snug at the toes. Not noticeable at first but once I wear them enough I'll get painful callouses from them rubbing together. These shoes have a nice feeling of supporting my foot across the whole surface, not just at specific spots. I work in healthcare so I'm on my feet a lot and these are comfortable and super light weight. I've been getting lots of questions from doctors wanting to know what brand these are and where they can get them. Comfort, support and much needed grip if the floor is slippery sound like they'd fit right in with healthcare professionals too....New market for you Astral?? ;-)
