Water Ready

All Astral shoes have a special relationship with water. Every component, from the thread to the laces are critically evaluated and chosen for its ability to hold up after constant soaking, to shed water, and not to accumulate funk. Many models have engineered drainage for water to come out while minimizing entry of silt.

Balanced Geometry

We believe that a foot’s position in a shoe should be similar to when barefoot. This allows excellent balance and biomechanically natural lifestyle.

Foot-beds are essentially level (only 1mm drop from heel to toe ) and provide medium arch support.  Tapered instep and heel area for better foothold and control. Wide forefoot allows your feet and toes to spread out for stability.

This G compound is formulated for premium grip while also providing "excellent" abrasion resistance. Its low durometer means the rubber is softer and therefore conforms well to the ground.

  • My Fave Hiking Shoe

    August 12, 2018

I've always been on the lookout for a hiking shoe/boot that combined a low profile with comfort and, most importantly, had supreme gripping power. I hate nothing more than hiking briskly and stepping on a rock, only to find out it's so slippery that I lose my footing. That happened to me once in Japan and I ended up spraining my ankle. That doesn't happen with these. They look good, are ultra comfortable, and perform well.

  • Great combination shoe

I got these to be my daily wear shoes but also use them for when I go out on trails for extended hikes or workouts at the gym. Comfortable so far!

  • Great Hiking Shoe

    December 14, 2017

I wore these shoes for a full season of hiking, and loved them. They're light weight, very breathable, and they dry out faster than any other pair of hiking shoes I've owned. The fact that the water easily drains out the front of the shoe is great for fording streams. There was also no break-in period. I had no problem with rubbing or blisters as these shoes are so light on the feet. They also have great tread which really grips rocks and makes it feel safe to be scrambling on slippery rocks and roots.

  • Great everyday shoe too!

    July 29, 2017

I came across Astral while I was searching for a shoe to wear on a trip to Europe. I wanted something that looked good but also would be good for lots of walking and would be good in the rain. This shoe delivered. I walked all over Amsterdam and different parts of Ireland in this- in the rain - and never had any problems. The shoe is very comfortable and lightweight. It has now become my go to shoes to wear around on the weekend. I also get a lot of compliments on the shoe from both men and women.
I plan on using this for trail walking/running soon and have no doubt that I will be buying another pair of Astrals soon.

  • Perfect approach shoe for rock climbing/beach trip in Virgin Gorda

    June 12, 2017

I bought this shoe specifically for a bouldering trip on the beaches of Virgin Gorda. It was perfect. We hiked with a regular day trip load of (water/food/climbing gear/camera). They were lightweight and extremely comfortable out of the box with no socks on roads, grass, sand, ocean, and most importably during highly technical and sometimes wet boulder scrambling. If I had been in my chacos I'm pretty sure I would have stubbed all my toes (I'm clumsy). The longest hike was maybe 2 miles but I spent over 7 9-hour days in them.

After submersion in water they were easy to drain by tipping towards the drainage point at the toe. They were comfortable to hike in while wet. They dried quickly in the caribbean sun after only a few hours (they did not dry in the shade most likely due to humidity). When hiking on the beach, sand did get into the shoe through the mesh and around the ankle, but this was not uncomfortable.

I highly recommend this shoe for short hikes w/wo water and will post a new review once I try them out as a longer distance climbing approach shoe.
