Water Ready

All Astral shoes have a special relationship with water. Every component, from the thread to the laces are critically evaluated and chosen for its ability to hold up after constant soaking, shed water, and not accumulate funk. Many models have engineered drainage for water to come out while minimizing entry of silt.

Balanced Geometery

We believe that a foot’s position in a shoe should be similar to when barefoot. This allows excellent balance and biomechanically natural lifestyle.

Foot-beds are essentially level (only 1mm drop from heel to toe ) and provide medium arch support.  Tapered instep and heel area for better foothold and control Wide forefoot allows your feet and toes to spread out for stability.

G15

This G compound is formulated for premium grip while also providing "excellent" abrasion resistance. It's low durometer means the rubber is softer and therefore conforms well to the ground.

  • Perfect approach shoe for rock climbing/beach trip in Virgin Gorda

    June 12, 2017

I bought this shoe specifically for a bouldering trip on the beaches of Virgin Gorda. It was perfect. We hiked with a regular day trip load of (water/food/climbing gear/camera). They were lightweight and extremely comfortable out of the box with no socks on roads, grass, sand, ocean, and most importably during highly technical and sometimes wet boulder scrambling. If I had been in my chacos I'm pretty sure I would have stubbed all my toes (I'm clumsy). The longest hike was maybe 2 miles but I spent over 7 9-hour days in them.

After submersion in water they were easy to drain by tipping towards the drainage point at the toe. They were comfortable to hike in while wet. They dried quickly in the caribbean sun after only a few hours (they did not dry in the shade most likely due to humidity). When hiking on the beach, sand did get into the shoe through the mesh and around the ankle, but this was not uncomfortable.

I highly recommend this shoe for short hikes w/wo water and will post a new review once I try them out as a longer distance climbing approach shoe.
