Water Ready

All Astral shoes have a special relationship with water. Every component, from the thread to the laces are critically evaluated and chosen for its ability to hold up after constant soaking, to shed water, and not to accumulate funk. Many models have engineered drainage for water to come out while minimizing entry of silt.

Balanced Geometry

We believe that a foot’s position in a shoe should be similar to when barefoot. This allows excellent balance and biomechanically natural lifestyle.

Foot-beds are essentially level (only 1mm drop from heel to toe ) and provide medium arch support.  Tapered instep and heel area for better foothold and control. Wide forefoot allows your feet and toes to spread out for stability.

This G compound is formulated for premium grip while also providing "excellent" abrasion resistance. Its low durometer means the rubber is softer and therefore conforms well to the ground.

  • Hiking perfection!

    June 12, 2021

I LOVE these shoes. After losing everything in a tornado, I needed some hiking shoes stat. I had met some Astral reps at various points through time and decided to pull the trigger. I've had these shoes for over a year now and worn them hiking in TN, NC, and now CO. I used to be afraid of stream crossings and now I plow right through. These are quick-drying, tough, great grip (we did some CO hikes where we should have had poles and these stood in as replacements); they are slightly filthy after my time with them, but in no way show wear that would lead me to replace them anytime soon. They wash great too. My favorite moment was spotting two other Astral wearers on the top of a mountain and spending 15 minutes waxing poetic about these shoes. They were huge fans as well. Do yourself a favor - buy these. Do yourself another favor - never take them off.

  • Almost fully obsessed...

    April 06, 2021

I almost fully obsessed with this shoe/brand, but there are a couple things to keep in mind. I tried on many different styles of Astrals, and in my experience, I consistently found the shoe to run a half to full size small. Also, the end of the toe box is pretty stiff. This isn't necessarily as bad thing, but it does play into the small sizing issue. If your toe repeatedly touches that rigid toe box, you can end up with sore toes, especially when hiking downhill.

Otherwise, I'm totally in love with this brand and this shoe. They're incredibly comfortably with a soft glove-like fit over the top of the foot, yet a super sturdy, sticky sole ready to take on slick rocks and scree, and the arch support...THE ARCH SUPPORT! As a Chaco hiker who has always struggled to find a closed toe hiking shoe, I have finally found it! Not to mention, they're super cute and flattering. LOVE this shoe; just take note of sizing issue.

  • Perfect for Mom

    March 18, 2021

I know its not sexy to talk about old folks and performance shoes, but I had been searching for a zero drop shoe with a wide toe box for my 90 year old Mom. Shoes for the elderly tend to be hideous and overly structured causing more problems for already aging feet. These were gifted to me but I found the toe box not wide enough (I generally buy Mens sizes) so I got a blister on my left outer pinky toe where the tongue seam attaches after a short hike. I decided to try them on my Mom though and they are amazing. The toe box leaves plenty of room for her toes that are curling from tight ankles/ tendons (we are working on that) great stability, and excellent traction. Plus she looks like a rock star!

Not the review you most commonly expect from us adventurous folks, but I think its worth knowing that these are great for aging feet as well.

  • Great toe box! Beautiful design too!

    October 19, 2020

Loving that these shoes have a roomy toe box that doesn't cramp my feet but also the heel does not slip. The soles grip pretty well too.

  • I love them

    June 23, 2020

I love my Loyaks for kayaking and hanging out at the creek, so I got these as a breathable light hiker. They were super comfy out of the box. The ventilation is awesome for warm summer days. They are super grippy and give me confidence on wet rocky trails and creek crossings. They are stylish and comfy enough to wear out after the trail too.

  • Awesome

    March 05, 2020

Very durable shoes that still look new after more than a year of use. Great shape that doesnt irritate my neuroma. One of the few shoes that are wide toe and zero drop, but also very supportive.

  • New favorite shoe

    February 20, 2020

Stumbled upon these on clearance while on a trip to Colorado. Love everything about them! I have a narrow foot and these keep my heel put and feel so supportive. They are lightweight and I love all the mesh for AZ warm hiking weather. The design is super cute too!

  • my new favorite shoe brand

    May 06, 2019

I recently discovered Astral shoes and now have 2 pair. I bought the deep water navy TR1 Junctions and I love them! my toes have plenty of wiggle room (most other shoes do not) and the mesh top keeps my feet cool on warm days. I usually get blisters on my heels after wearing shoes for the first time, and I haven't experienced any blisters with these shoes. Finally, the color and design are very cool. I would absolutely recommend these shoes.

  • Astral hooked

    April 19, 2019

Grabbed these and another pair of Astral shoes today in Durango and Im obsessed. Had been looking for a good pair of hiking shoes that fit my lengthy list of specs- fit, function, style, zero drop, vegan, super grip, good in water.
The price of these is so great and they are so well made- worth every penny and more. Love the flower on the tongue and the purple and navy color is nice. Mellow but a pop of color for flair. Buy them.

  • Best shoes I have ever owned

    March 04, 2019

I was looking for a new shoe for city walking, trails and also to be able to wear kayaking. They are incredible. I can walk 5 miles in them, no hot spots/ blisters, no break-in period. Walks in the rain are fun, the grips on these shoes are amazing. They are stylish and weigh nearly nothing. My wife will be purchasing a pair now that she is tired of me bragging about mine.

  • My Fave Hiking Shoe

    August 12, 2018

I've always been on the lookout for a hiking shoe/boot that combined a low profile with comfort and, most importantly, had supreme gripping power. I hate nothing more than hiking briskly and stepping on a rock, only to find out it's so slippery that I lose my footing. That happened to me once in Japan and I ended up spraining my ankle. That doesn't happen with these. They look good, are ultra comfortable, and perform well.

  • Great combination shoe

    May 07, 2018

I got these to be my daily wear shoes but also use them for when I go out on trails for extended hikes or workouts at the gym. Comfortable so far!

  • Great Hiking Shoe

    December 14, 2017

I wore these shoes for a full season of hiking, and loved them. They're light weight, very breathable, and they dry out faster than any other pair of hiking shoes I've owned. The fact that the water easily drains out the front of the shoe is great for fording streams. There was also no break-in period. I had no problem with rubbing or blisters as these shoes are so light on the feet. They also have great tread which really grips rocks and makes it feel safe to be scrambling on slippery rocks and roots.

  • Great everyday shoe too!

    July 29, 2017

I came across Astral while I was searching for a shoe to wear on a trip to Europe. I wanted something that looked good but also would be good for lots of walking and would be good in the rain. This shoe delivered. I walked all over Amsterdam and different parts of Ireland in this- in the rain - and never had any problems. The shoe is very comfortable and lightweight. It has now become my go to shoes to wear around on the weekend. I also get a lot of compliments on the shoe from both men and women.
I plan on using this for trail walking/running soon and have no doubt that I will be buying another pair of Astrals soon.

  • Perfect approach shoe for rock climbing/beach trip in Virgin Gorda

    June 12, 2017

I bought this shoe specifically for a bouldering trip on the beaches of Virgin Gorda. It was perfect. We hiked with a regular day trip load of (water/food/climbing gear/camera). They were lightweight and extremely comfortable out of the box with no socks on roads, grass, sand, ocean, and most importably during highly technical and sometimes wet boulder scrambling. If I had been in my chacos I'm pretty sure I would have stubbed all my toes (I'm clumsy). The longest hike was maybe 2 miles but I spent over 7 9-hour days in them.

After submersion in water they were easy to drain by tipping towards the drainage point at the toe. They were comfortable to hike in while wet. They dried quickly in the caribbean sun after only a few hours (they did not dry in the shade most likely due to humidity). When hiking on the beach, sand did get into the shoe through the mesh and around the ankle, but this was not uncomfortable.

I highly recommend this shoe for short hikes w/wo water and will post a new review once I try them out as a longer distance climbing approach shoe.

  • Top Layer Separated

    February 02, 2021

I have several pairs of Astral and I love their non-slip nature but the top layer of material on the front of these shoes peeled off. Ive had to glue them and add a denim patch. Very disappointing.
