Water Ready

All Astral shoes have a special relationship with water. Every component, from the thread to the laces are critically evaluated and chosen for its ability to hold up after constant soaking, to shed water, and not to accumulate funk. Many models have engineered drainage for water to come out while minimizing entry of silt.

Balanced Geometry

We believe that a foot’s position in a shoe should be similar to when barefoot. This allows excellent balance and biomechanically natural lifestyle.

Foot-beds are essentially level (only 1mm drop from heel to toe ) and provide medium arch support.  Tapered instep and heel area for better foothold and control. Wide forefoot allows your feet and toes to spread out for stability.

This G compound is formulated for premium grip while also providing "excellent" abrasion resistance. Its low durometer means the rubber is softer and therefore conforms well to the ground.

  • extraordinary grip, excellent warranty

    November 29, 2018

I wear these shoes everywhere and they grip the ground like no other shoe or boot that I've ever worn. Due to the width of my foot with most shoes I have to go to a EEEE. The wide toe box allows my foot to slide in nicely, and the fit is then snug since I gather the shoe is otherwise the equivalent of a D. I used a gray pair for 11 months, and then ordered a cobalt blue pair, which was equally good until, after five months, the mesh of the shoe wore through in one spot. Astral simply replaced the shoe, honoring its warranty despite the months of use. The shoe does squeek a bit around the house. But that stops after they are worn a bit outside.

I am going back to the gray color. Cobalt blue no longer is offered. It's a terrific color, which I will miss. But I like the gray too and it lasts.

  • Love Your Shoes

    August 22, 2018

Hello! Just some quick fan mail: I bought a pair of mesh tr1's last month and they are by far my favorite pair of athletic footwear I've ever owned. I've used them for hiking, rock scrambling, moutain biking, going around town (because they also look cool), and even an occasional river exploration. My feet never sweat, I never slip on rocks, and they're just so damn comfortable to stand in all day. I found them are a retailer out in Roanoke and I just moved to CO, and so far they're holding up great to the Rocky mountains.

  • Third pair of Astrals

    August 16, 2018

I got the original Brewers, then the Loyaks, now the TR1 Mesh. Every pair I get makes me want to get another pair. I wear the TR1's daily. They're great all day on my feet at work. They're super breathable which my wife appreciates, as it reduces a usually significant foot sweat, and the odor resistant insole does it's job like it's supposed to. I've got a long, narrower foot and they fit great despite having the wider toe box. Astral is a smart company that makes high quality, functional products. Plus, I fly fish a lot and they've got the stickiest rubber in the game (by far) for wading rivers. Simms, Patagonia, Orvis, none of them are even close to having as good of a rubber bottomed wading shoe.

  • More comfort than I could ask for

    July 20, 2018

I am a very active person; but lately, I've developed plantar fasciitis in one foot. Yes, this is painful and heals slowly, but it won't allow me to go barefoot or even wear slippers. Wearing the wrong shoes is even painful. Well, I bought the Astral TR1 Mesh shoes on the recommendation of the Astral salesman at the iCast show in Florida last week, and now that I've worn these shoes for a couple days, I am absolutely amazed at the arch support and complete comfort that I am experiencing. I have absolutely NO pain! I've never had shoes that fit me so perfectly and feel so good. Thank God I found you, Astral. I'm buying another pair right away!

  • Amazing shoes for wider feet, great for moderate hiking.

    July 13, 2018

I have wide feet and a neuroma, so finding good sneakers or hiking shoes is a major pain. These puppies felt like a pair of comfortable slippers the moment I put them on. I have worn them the last week for some easy to moderate hiking in Shenandoah and they have been perfect. Breathable in the Virginia heat and with enough traction that I feel surefooted scrambling rocks. I did size up to 10.5 (Im a 10W).

  • Best pair of shoes I've ever owned

    June 28, 2018

The title seems dumb but it's true. I have never been so satisfied with the way a pair of shoes fit my wide size 11 feet (usually 11 too long, 11.5 too narrow), or with how cushy the insole was, but what's really excellent is how grippy the outsole is. I spent 9 days across 22 lakes in the BWCA with these puppies, in and out of the canoe onto all sorts of rocky and mucky terrain. I knew Astrals were about grip but I let the shoes do the talking (and the walking) and they never failed me in the water. I slipped a few times on very mucky rocks on small lakes and bays with little to no current to remove the buildup, but I always knew if the rocks were especially dangerous and always had a paddle or grip on the canoe to stabilize me. I never fell, never twisted an ankle. On steep rocks downhill on a portage, I never slipped. With all that wetfooting, I was concerned about how my feet would feel. I was again so pleased to find that my feet warmed and dried quickly with thin socks and the mesh of these shoes, even on dreary cloudy days. I never once felt the sensation that my feet were cold and pruny and wanted to be dry. The shoes dried out quickly at camp when I pulled the insoles out a bit, always within the day or overnight. Believe me when I say I LOVED wearing these shoes. They were very comfortable, very grippy (and therefore a bit safer in slippery situations), and they even look pretty good too. I don't mind the wide toe because the shoes are just so comfortable. One of the guys on my 9 day trip had his Merge Ms (on my recommendation) and also had nothing to say but good things about the shoes, also praising the grip at particularly dicey landings in remote areas. I will not hesitate to buy another pair of Astrals for any reason and recommend them highly to all. Best shoes ever.

  • Amazing

    May 28, 2018

These shoes make a huge difference. You can feel it. I used to go on trail hikes with regular running shoes so when I used these I felt like a mountain goat walking and climbing boulders! I most defiantly recommend them! Plus they are really good looking and breathable. They keep your feet dry.

  • Amazing

    May 27, 2018

I went on a hiking trail that involved a lot of boulders and balancing. These shoes made me feel like a mountain goat! The old pair shoes I used to go on trails with were regular running shoes. I had no idea how huge the difference would be.

  • Al Privette

    April 25, 2018

I have been wearing Astral's for at least five years, and I can honestly say I've never owned any shoes from which gave better service, performance, and overall enjoyment that each of my 8 pairs of Astrals'!! I kayak, fly-fish, and have several power boats, from a 17' Gheenoe, to a 24' Pro Line Express that we take offshore for larger game-fish. I wash my car, boat, and dogs wearing them ...... I mow my yard in them ...... even wear the clean ones to meetings, even church. They don't last forever, buy then nothing you love does,, I am about to order several more pair....... just need to rotate a few out of service. Problem is ............ when I select a pair or to toss, I ALWAYS think T can get just another day or week from them. It's always a tough decision to make. I love my Astrals .......... every one of them!

  • Great shoe for everything

    July 13, 2017

I have been using the TR1 Mesh shoes for a few months now. Durability wise they are great. They provide excellent support for all types of terrain. I use them for kayaking, hiking, sup, and even around town. I have owned four pairs of Astral in the past and this is my favorite shoe. I know some people think that 510 has the best rubber but I have had these shoes on some sketchy portage's and they worked great. My wife owns a pair of the tr1 junction shoe and she loves it as well. It's been great to see how Astral continues to improve their designs and this shoe definitely shows it.

  • Ultimate Water Expedition Shoe

    June 14, 2017

The Astral reps at Canoecopia talked me into purchasing a pair of Astrals for my 740 mile Northern Forest Canoe Trail expedition.

I've just returned from that trip and my gear, as well as my body, took a thorough beating. My boat has a hole and my boat cart is destroyed but my shoes look nearly new. They performed flawlessly through rivers, lakes, streams and over 100 miles of portages. The infamous mud pond carry found me hip deep in mud for nearly 2 miles. A quick rinse in the lake had my shoes looking and performing like new.
My expedition partner was constantly slipping on river rocks as we lined our boats downriver. The soles of my Astrals provided me with speed, safety and confidence. The transition from paddling to portaging was seamless as my Astrals excelled at both and required no downtime for changes of footwear.
My Astrals were easily the most durable and useful piece of gear on the entire trip. Simply put, I'm impressed.

  • Great Fit

    May 22, 2017

The shoes have a nice wide toe box and fit very comfortably, true to size. The mesh upper is light and cool. Two colors of laces is a nice touch. I would highly recommend and will purchase again.

  • Fantastic product

    May 05, 2017

This is the third pair of Astral shoes I have owned and they are outstanding. I am a kayak tour guide in Florida. In and out of the water, both salt and fresh water, every day numerous times. These shoes wear well, dry easily, and can be worn anywhere. No other water shoe performs as well as the Astral brand.

  • Awesome!

    April 30, 2017

I want to say that I'm always hesitant ordering shoes online but everything was prefect! Fast shipping too! As far as the shoes go they're great. Prefect fit, great traction and the most comfortable shoe I've ever put on. The wide foot box really helps. Great product! Getting my girlfriend a pair right away!
