Granite Grip Outsole

Maximized sole-to-surface contact for increased friction on smooth surfaces. Razor-Siping increases quantity of edges for gripping. Beveled lugs help prevent mud accumulation. Thin profile for flexibility and sufficient sensory feedback promotes better balance and grip.

Water Ready

All Astral shoes have a special relationship with water. Every component, from the thread to the laces are critically evaluated and chosen for its ability to hold up after constant soaking, shed water, and not accumulate funk. Many models have engineered drainage for water to come out while minimizing entry of silt.

Balanced Geometery

We believe that a foot’s position in a shoe should be similar to when barefoot. This allows excellent balance and biomechanically natural lifestyle.

Foot-beds are essentially level (only 1mm drop from heel to toe ) and provide medium arch support.  Tapered instep and heel area for better foothold and control Wide forefoot allows your feet and toes to spread out for stability.

GSS

The “ss” is for “Super Sticky” and we can confidently say that outsoles made with it provide the best grip in water-sports. Unlike other maximum friction compounds, G.ss is non-marking and provides good abrasion resistance. Its low durometer (measure of hardness) lessens impact and provides excellent conformity to surfaces.

  • LOVE the Brewess!!!

    April 15, 2017

I purchased a red pair of the Brewess at Great Outdoor Provision Co. in Charlotte, NC and I couldn't be happier. I wore them hiking today at Stone Mountain in NC, and they were put to the test. It started pouring down rain, and the stone would have been worrisome for me . . . but not today! There's a part of the trail that goes straight down the stone, and there was never the slightest slip. My shoes didn't budge!!!!! And on the soaking wet wooden steps I experienced the same thing. I am one happy customer!!!!!!!!!!!!! The grip on these shoes is OUTSTANDING!!!!!!! :D :D :D

  • Literally helped me save a life

    March 22, 2017

While boating a friend got into a really bad spot and to get to him you had to jump from one rock across some fast moving water onto another rock that was pretty covered in algae. One of my friends jumped (sans Astrals) and slipped off the rock and was swept downstream. Another jumped and had Astrals; he made it and was able to get to our friend but couldn't rescue him alone, so I jumped across as well and made it only because of the grippiness of these shoes. My friend owes his life to our shoes and their ability to get us where we needed to be, quickly and safely. I'll never wear any other shoes on the river.

  • Great outdoor shoe with all the support!

    July 19, 2016

I love the brewesses for long hikes, or just long days outside all together. They support my foot and keep my arch from aching. They fit perfect over my drysuit for the river as well!

  • THE Shoe for Multi-Sport Outdoor Adventures

    May 09, 2016

I can't rave enough about this shoe. Footwear plays an important role in outdoor exploration- it can make or break the experience- and I often have multiple pairs for when I'm combining sports. After all, the SUP season is upon us, but so are climbing and hiking. Needless to say, I was intrigued when I first learned about this shoe. The short version:PRO's- Built for strength and versatility, which is evident when you try to beat them up- Quick-drying and breathable, which helps to prevent odor and blisters- Footbed keeps feet from sliding inside the shoes- Sticky, in both wet and dry situations- Lightweight- Cute design and colors! (I often wear these as a casual shoe with jeans)- Comfortable: wide toe box and women-specific heel- Easy to clean!CON's- Not stiff enough to climb five-class rock- Dust and dirt can get in, so feet/socks can get dirty while hikingThe Long version:I put these shoes to the test out at Banks Lake in central Washington as my ONLY pair of shoes, where I hauled climbing and camping gear via paddle board to an uninhabited island for the weekend. From the moment I started carrying the SUP down to shore, I discovered that I didn't have to worry about footwear. They scrambled to shore confidently, stuck to the paddle board (without scuffing it!) despite choppy conditions, and I was able to scramble up wet granite to get to shore, as well as hike/bushwack/boulder across small islands without a worry. The footbed inside the shoe prevented my foot from sliding around and getting blisters on the bottoms of my feet, and the sticky outsole worked perfectly. After paddling, the shoes were dry within minutes and ready to tackle overland exploration. When I was ready to start climbing, I tethered the shoes to my harness and their lightweight didn't weigh me down, with the bonus that I didn't have to walk off the route in rock shoes (ouch!).In any other circumstance, I would have brought heavy Chaco sandals and hiking boots, at the very least, to handle my amphibious adventure. Much like the women who wear her, the Brewess is strong, versatile, and gung-ho enough to handle unexpected, all-terrain adventures.

  • Best shoe for the riv and the bar

    April 14, 2016

This shoe is PERFECT! The toe box is roomy to make sure there is enough room for my dry suit, wool socks, and toes. Then when I use the shoe for everyday use the toe box doesn't feel overly big. The size Astral has made the toe box is perfect for boating and everyday life. The cushioning is SUPER comfortable. It is thin enough so you feel your feet grip around rocks for added anti-slippage, yet cushioned enough they feel like slippers when I wear them. The sticky stealth sole they have used is amazing. It grips the mossy-est, slippery-est, wet-est, river rocks around. I also use them when bartending and they keep me safe from slipping when beer spills or mopping needs to happen. The fabric and little drain holes help the shoes to dry extremely fast. These shoes have been designed perfectly. Don't waste your time with any other boat shoe get the Brewess!
